Man found dead after ATV crash

UPDATED STORY: Police release ATV rider’s name

BLADES, DELAWARE (6/14/2016) A 36-year-old man was found dead after an ATV crash southeast of Blades, the Delaware State Police said this morning.

The victim, of Seaford, was riding along a tax ditch on a farm on Bethel Concord Road (also known as Oneals Road) when the ground apparently gave way, causing the ATV to roll about 10 feet down the embankment.

The 2001 Polaris Sportsman 700 four-wheel ATV came to rest on top of the man, police said, in very shallow water at the bottom of the ditch.

Police said the crash happened at 4:22 p.m. Sunday but the man was not found until Monday evening.

The man was not wearing a helmet and alcohol appears to be a factor, police said.

His body was turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science for an autopsy.

Police are withholding the man’s name pending notification of next of kin.
