BEAR, DELAWARE (6/10/2016) A balcony fire this morning at the Valley Stream Village Apartments was accidental, the Delaware state Fire Marshal’s Office ruled.

The fire broke out about 9 a.m. in the 1000 block of Valley Stream Drive.

Smoke was coming from a third-floor balcony when Christiana Fire Company arrived, said Alan Brown, assistant state fire marshal.

The fire was quickly extinguished with assistance from other fire companies.

Investigators determined the fire was started by discarded smoking materials on the balcony.

No one was injured.

Damage was estimated at $10,000.
