NEW CASTLE COUNTY, DELAWARE (6/6/2016) Hundreds of Delmarva Power customers remained without electricity this morning following thunderstorms Sunday evening that downed trees and wires across New Castle County.

The company’s website reported more than 1,800 outages remaining at 7 a.m. at scattered spots across the county, with some service not expected to be restored until 1 p.m. today. By 11:35 a.m., the number of outages had been reduced to about 1,400.

The National Weather Service said 11 trees were toppled in Port Penn, with four landing on wires. A large pine tree was reported uprooted in Pike Creek and limbs were down in Holly Oak and near Wilmington Hospital.

DelDOT reported just before 6 a.m. that Old Summit Bridge Road is closed from Route 71 to Bethel Church Road due to tree and wires down.

A downed tree also blocked lanes on U.S. 40 in Cecil County, Maryland, during the storm.

A wind gust of 48 mph was measured at New Castle Airport, the weather service said.

Today’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high of 84 degrees. More thunderstorms are possible Tuesday afternoon.
