TOWNSEND, DELAWARE (5/8/2016) A 37-year-old Georgetown man was killed early Saturday when his pickup truck struck a tree southwest of Townsend, the Delaware State Police said.
The crash happened about 1:05 a.m. on Saw Mill Road south of Vandyke Greenspring Road.
Jeffrey M. Mesh was driving a 2014 Ford F-150 northbound and failed to negotiate a right curve, police said, spinning around and hitting a large tree on the west side, then striking a split-rail fence.
Mesh was partially ejected through the passenger window. Police said he wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
No one else was in the truck. Mesh was pronounced dead at the scene by New Castle County paramedics.
Police said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
Saw Mill Road was closed about three hours as police investigated.
