Wilmington police arrest teen in stolen vehicle

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (5/6/2016) A 17-year-old boy was arrested in a stolen vehicle after trying to flee from police and crashing into another car, Wilmington authorities said Thursday.

The vehicle was reported stolen in the 100 block of Lower Oak Street about 7:50 a.m.

At 8:36 a.m., officers on patrol spotted the vehicle near Lancaster Avenue and North Van Buren Street. They stopped the vehicle in the 1100 block of Lancaster Avenue, but the driver put the vehicle in reverse, nearly striking a woman officer approaching it and hitting a Suzuki.

No injuries were reported and the 17-year-old driver of the stolen vehicle was taken into custody. He was charged with theft of a motor vehicle over $1,500, second-degree reckless endangering and driving without a license.
