DOVER, DELAWARE (4/18/2016) A 22-year-old man was shot during a home invasion in Dover on Sunday night, and a suspect was later arrested, city police said this morning.

The incident happened about 11 p.m. in the 100 block of Willis Road. It was the second home invasion on the street in the same night.

Police said 24-year-old Hakeem Leonard forced his way into the home through the victim’s bedroom window.

Leonard fired several shots with a handgun, Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said, striking the 22-year-old once in the chest.

The victim fought with the intruder, who then fled. The 22-year-old man was taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital and is in stable condition, Hoffman said.

Leonard was arrested when he arrived at the hospital seeking treatment for injuries he received during the fight with the 22-year-old, Hoffman said.

Leonard was charged with home invasion, first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and criminal mischief.

He was being held at Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna in lieu of $100,000 secured bond.
