DELMAR, DELAWARE (1/27/2016) A 65-year-old man was killed Tuesday in a crash northeast of Delmar, the Delaware State Police said.

The accident happened just after noon on Old Stage Road at Whitesville Road.

The man killed, Alfred C. Gilmore, of Salisbury, Maryland, was driving a 1982 Chevrolet van that was northbound on Old Stage Road and failed to stop at the stop sign, then was struck on the driver’s side by a 2007 Hino 238 box truck that was eastbound on Whitesville Road, police said. Both vehicles rolled onto their right sides northeast of the intersection.

Gilmore was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Hino, identified as Robert D. Malaby, 55, of Salisbury, was not injured, police said.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Police said they are still investigating but alcohol use is not considered a factor.

The roads were closed in the area about 3 hours.
