Little Caesar’s Pizza robbery suspect captured

SMYRNA, DELAWARE (1/13/2016) A suspect in the robbery of a Little Caesar’s Pizza restaurant in Smyrna was captured a short time later in Cheswold,  police said.

The robbery happened about 8:50 p.m. Thursday at 599 Jimmy Drive. A man wearing a mask pointed a handgun at employees and demanded cash from the register. They complied and the robber fled.

With a description of the vehicle that the robber fled in, police said, Smyrna and Clayton officers stopped it in Cheswold.

Vontaye Gilbert, 36 of Chestertown, Maryland, and a female who was driving the vehicle were detained, with Gilbert  being charged with first-degree robbery, three counts of aggravated menacing, wearing a disguise during commission of a felony, tampering with physical evidence, second-degree conspiracy, theft and carrying a concealed dangerous instrument.

Gilbert was being held by the Department of Correction in lieu of $53,000 cash bond, Cpl. Brian Donner of Smyrna police said.
