Shotgun found after youth stopped for jaywalking in Elsmere

ELSMERE, DELAWARE (1/1/2016) A youth stopped for jaywalking was arrested New Year’s Eve for concealing a 20-gauge sawed-off shotgun in his waistband, Elsmere police said.

The youth, from Wilmington, was one in a group of three stopped about 10:30 p.m. at Beach and Second avenues.

All of the youths were in violation of the town’s curfew, police said.

The youth with a gun was charged with possession of a destructive weapon, possession of a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited (juvenile), jaywalking and curfew violation.

He was released on $25,000 unsecured bond and turned over to his parents, and ordered to stay out of Elsmere.
