Motorcyclist in critical condition after U.S. 13 crash

UPDATED STORY: Police say motorcyclist was racing before crash

NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (12/26/2015) A 61-year-old man was in critical condition after his motorcycle collided with a car on U.S. 13 near New Castle, authorities said.

The accident happened about 1:30 p.m. in the 100 block of N. DuPont Highway (U.S. 13).

The man was treated at the scene for head, lower extremity and possible internal injuries and abrasions, said Sgt. Abigail E. Haas of New Castle County paramedics. He was then taken by Wilmington Manor Fire Company ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stantion.

According to reports from the scene, the motorcycle was northbound when it collided with the car, which had pulled onto the highway from a car dealership across from New Castle Airport. The motorcycle continued into the median and struck a culvert, ejecting the cyclist.

No injuries were reported in the car.

The crash is under investigation by Delaware State Police.
