Woman arrested during motel robbery on Route 1

REHOBOTH BEACH, DELAWARE (12/3/2015) A Lewes woman was arrested during the robbery of a motel on Route 1 near Rehoboth Beach, the Delaware State Police said.

It happened about 4:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Econo Lodge, 19540 Coastal Highway.

Police said Michelle L. Bloothoofd, 42, of Lewes, implied she had a gun and demanded cash from the register of the 55-year-old man working at the desk. The man told her there was not money, then walked into an office, locked the door and called 911.

Bloothoofd threatened to shoot the clerk through the door if he didn’t unlock it, police said, but she then walked behind the counter and removed $400 in cash from several drawers.

A trooper arrived and she was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Bloothoofd was charged with first-degree robbery, resisting arrest, terroristic threatening and failure to comply with taking of photo and fingerprints. She was being held at Sussex Correctional Institution near Georgetown in lieu of $28,000 secured bond.
