BLADES, DELAWARE (11/18/2015) A juvenile probation officer fired his gun when a vehicle with a teenager at the wheel began driving toward him, Delaware State Police reported this morning.

The incident began about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday when juvenile probation and parole officers did a curfew check at the home of 15-year-old Terry R. McIntire Jr. in the 23000 block of Old Meadow Road east of Seaford.

Shortly afterward, police said, the officers saw McIntire drive a Dodge Journey minivan through Seaford and into a private driveway on Second Street in the town of Blades.

As probation officers approached the minivan, McIntire tried to leave the scene, police said, and drove toward one of the officers.

The officer fired one round which struck the tire on the vehicle, which police said left the area but was found with a flat tire on Fourth Street.

Police said McIntire and two other occupants had fled on foot.

The probation officers were not hurt.

Warrants charging McIntire with two counts of first-degree felony reckless endangering are being prepared, police said.

They asked anyone with information on McIntire to call  Detective J. King at 302-741-2821.

Tips also may be submitted anonymously through Delaware Crime Stoppers, which offers rewards, at 800-847-3333 or www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com.

Police said a boy who was a passenger in the minivan but left it before the shot was fired was released to the custody of his parents and was not charged.

State police said the probation officers had requested assistance from local police during the pursuit but none had arrived by the time the shooting took place.
