BROOKSIDE, DELAWARE (11/16/2015) A man has been charged in the theft of a package delivered to a home in the Breezewood community, New Castle County police said, and his girlfriend also faces a charge.

Derrick Simmons, 27, of the 400 block of Gender Road, and April Miller, 38, of the first block of Eastwind Court, were arrested after the theft was reported Friday.

Police said the victim discovered the package missing after a neighbor went to retrieve it and the package was gone.

Officers viewed surveillance video from the area and saw Simmons walking near the home at the time of the delivery, Cpl. Tracey Duffy said.

Police learned Miller was Simmons’ girlfriend and lived next to the victim’s home, Duffy said.

Police said Miller denied any knowledge of the theft.

Simmons was arrested at his home and the opened and damaged package was recovered and returned to the victim, Duffy said.

Simmons was charged with theft under $1,500, third-degree criminal trespass and criminal mischief. He was being held at Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington in lieu of $601 secured bail.

Miller was charged with providing a false statement to police and released on $500 unsecured bond.
