21-year-old man seriously injured in Route 1 rollover crash

BLACKBIRD, DELAWARE (11/16/2015) A 21-year-old man was injured in a rollover crash on Route 1 near Blackbird Creek this morning, authorities said.

The crash happened shortly after 10 a.m.

The driver was treated at the scene for possible head and neck injuries and was taken to Christiana Hospital in Stanton in serious but stable condition, said Cpl. Abigail Haas of New Castle County paramedics.

Haas said a second crash happened as emergency crews were dealing with the first, but those involved declined treatment.

Delaware State Police are investigating the crash.

Motor Vehicle Collision with Rollover

The New Castle County Paramedics were dispatched to Route 1 northbound, in the area of Blackbird Creek, for the report of a motor vehicle collision with rollover. Upon the Paramedics’ arrival on scene a 21 year old male operator of a vehicle was treated for possible head and neck injuries before being transported by the Paramedics to the Christiana Hospital in Stanton in serious but stable condition. A second collision occurred in the same area while responders were on scene of the first incident. All persons involved in the second collision refused transport to the hospital. The Delaware State Police was on scene investigating the incident.
