Woman robbed on Newark trail

NEWARK, DELAWARE (11/10/2015) A 26-year-old woman, walking alone on the Pomeroy Trail near Kershaw Street, was robbed at gunpoint Monday night, Newark police said this morning.

The victim had entered the trail about 11 p.m. near East Cleveland Avenue and Paper Mill Road.

She was approached from behind by a man who demanded her cellphone and purse and then fled on foot toward Paper Mill Road.

The woman, who was not injured, returned home and called police.

The robber was described as black, 18-35 years old, about 5-feet-9 and with average build. He wore dark pants and had a dark bandanna over his face.

Lt. Bill Hargrove said the victim was not a University of Delaware student.

The Pomeroy Trail also is known as the Newark and Pomeroy Rail Trail.
