MILLTOWN, DELAWARE (11/4/2015) A Dickinson High School student was arrested Tuesday after administrators found a handgun in his book bag, Delaware State Police said.

The incident happened about 11 a.m. at the school at 1801 Milltown Road.

Police said Delvis J. Valladares, 16, of Wilmington, a 10th-grader, was seen showing other students a handgun in a bathroom and another student reported this to administrators.

Administrators removed Valladares from his class and searched his book bag, finding the unloaded .25 caliber handgun, police said. The school resource officer then took Valladares into custody.

He was charged with possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and possession of a weapon in a safe school zone.

Valladares was arraigned at Family Court and was being held at Ferris School in lieu of $7,000 secured bond.

No ammunition for the gun was found. Dickinson High School was not placed in a lockdown, police said.
