MILLSBORO, DELAWARE (9/26/2015) A 39-year-old woman was killed when a small car she was riding in collided with a pickup truck on Route 24 west of Millsboro this morning, Delaware State police said.
The accident happened about 5:30 a.m east of Godwin School Road (County road 328A).
The woman killed was identified as Jennifer L. Morris of Millsboro.
She was a passenger in a 2013 Ford Fiesta that was westbound on Route 24 (Millsboro Highway), driven by Kenneth W. Damron, 44, of Millsboro.
Police said Damron was negotiating a moderate left curve when he crossed the center line into the eastbound lane into the path of a 2002 Dodge Ram, driven by 27-year-old Jessie J. Saunders of Delmar.
Saunders acted to avoid a collision but the right front of each vehicle collided, police said.
The impact forced the Ford off the south side of the road, where it rolled onto the passenger side and came to rest against a tree.
The Dodge spun around and came to rest in the eastbound lane.
Morris suffered massive injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Damron was flown by state police helicopter to Beebe Healthcare’s hospital in Lewes where he was stabilized and later flown to Christiana Hospital in Stanton.
Both were wearing seat belts.
Saunders, who police said was not properly restrained, suffered minor scratches and injuries that were not life-threatening. He declined medical treatment at the scene.
The road was closed in the area about three hours.
Police are still investigating the crash but said alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors.
