LAUREL, DELAWARE (9/15/2015) A head-on crash east of Laurel killed a driver and passenger in one car and seriously injured the other driver, Delaware State Police said this morning.
The accident happened about 8:25 p.m. Monday on Laurel Road (Route 24) just west of Jestice Road.
Edward A. Spicer, 55, of Laurel, and his passenger, Jerry L. Whiteman, 57, of Laurel, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
They were westbound in a 1992 Nissan Stanza when an eastbound 2015 Mazda CX5 crossed directly into their path, police said. Spicer swerved to the right but the two cars collided head-on.
The driver of the Mazda, Ronald J. Barde, 56, of Millsboro, was taken by ambulance to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, then airlifted to Christiana Hospital in Stanton. Police said he was admitted in serious condition.
