Driver charged with DUI after U.S. 13 crash in Canterbury

CDSP logoANTERBURY, DELAWARE (8/26/2015) A Frankford man was charged with DUI after his car crashed through a fence and struck two horse trailers along U.S. 13 in Canterbury, the Delaware State Police said this morning.

Police said 65-year-old Huseyin Oflu was southbound on U.S. 13 (South DuPont Highway) just north of Irish Hill Road about 2:40 a.m. Wednesday in a 1997 Nissan Altima.

The Nissan crossed over the median and northbound lanes, struck a fence and the two trailers at Delwood Trailers Inc. The car continued through another fence on the property and struck a Verizon utility box and a road sign before coming to rest in the Canterbury Shore Stop parking lot just south of Irish Hill Road, police said.

A witness stopped to render aid and saw Oflu throwing beer cans from his car, police said.

Oflu was cited by troopers with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to remain within a single lane, failure to have insurance in possession and littering. He was later released.
