82-year-old man struck, killed on U.S. 13

DSP logoLAUREL, DELAWARE (8/25/2015) An 82-year-old died this afternoon after he was struck by a pickup truck while walking across Sussex Highway (U.S. 13) north of Laurel, according to Delaware State Police.

The accident happened about 4:50 p.m. just north of Boyce Road.

Police said the victim had just stepped from the median into the southbound lanes when he was struck by the front left side of a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup driven by Robert C. Moore 3rd, 19, of Delmar.

The 82-year-old man was thrown to the ground by the impact. The pickup came to a stop.

The 82-year-old was taken by ambulance to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, where he was pronounced dead.

Moore, who police said was wearing a seat belt, also was taken to Nanticoke and treated for injuries police said were not life-threatening.

Troopers are still investigating the incident.

Southbound U.S. 13 was closed about 2.5 hours.
