Man shot in Wilmington facing threat charges

Wilmington police logoWILMINGTON, DELAWARE (8/10/2015) A 21-year-old man wounded in the leg is facing charges for threatening the man who shot him in self defense, Wilmington police said tonight.

Police were called at 4:44 a.m. Sunday for a report of shots fired in the area of 25th and Tatnall streets. Officers found no victim in that area but shortly after learned a man had shown up at St. Francis Hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper right leg.

Police say the shooting victim, Marcel Dixon of Wilmington, was alleged to have pointed a handgun while threatening to kill a 33-year-old man in the 2400 block of N. Tatnall St.

Dixon then fired at the 33-year-old but missed, police said.

The 33-year-old was licensed to carry a weapon and fired back at Dixon, police said. Dixon then allegedly fired one more round and fled.

The 33-year-old immediately notified police.

Police said Dixon remains in stable condition and will face the following charges pending his release from the hospital:

  • Reckless endangering first degree
  • Possession of a firearm by a person prohibited
  • Carrying a concealed deadly weapon
  • Terroristic threatening
