Dover woman struck, killed on U.S. 113 in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, DELAWARE (7/7/2015) A 44-year-old Dover woman walking across U.S. 113 in Georgetown was killed early Monday when she was struck by a pickup truck, Delaware State Police said.

The accident happened about 4:30 a.m. just north of Bramhall Street.

The woman killed was identified as Jennifer L. Hughes.

Police said she walked from the median into the path of a northbound 2007 GMC Sierra pickup, driven by Trevor W. West, 32, of Georgetown.

Hughes was taken by ambulance to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, where she was pronounced dead.

Police said she was not in a designated crosswalk and was not carrying a flashlight.

West, who was wearing a seat belt, brought the truck to a controlled stop and was not injured.

Police are still investigating but they said alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors and no charges are expected.

Northbound U.S. 113 (DuPont Boulevard) was closed about 2.5 hours between Bramhall Street and Bridgeville Road (Route 18).
