Dover officer injured as wanted man flees in truck

DOVER, DELAWARE (6/27/2015) A Dover police officer was injured Friday as a wanted man from Milford fled after running a stop sign, authorities said.

The incident happened about 9:30 a.m. at Independence Boulevard and Lamplighter Lane.

John E. Pauley, 25, was stopped for running a stop sign, and the officer then learned Pauley was wanted by Superior Court on numerous charges including violation of probation, Cpl. Mark Hoffman said.

As police attempted to arrest Pauley, he drove off, striking an officer’s hand, and headed north on Independence Boulevard in an unregistered gray 2001 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck, Hoffman said.

He said the officer’s injury was minor.

Pauley faces new charges of assault, resisting arrest with force or violence, disregarding an officer’s signal and numerous traffic violations.
