HOCKESSIN, DELAWARE (6/25/2015) Three people were injured this afternoon in a two-vehicle crash that happened after a suspicious car was pursued by New Castle County police, authorities said.

The incident began at 12:18 p.m., when a county patrol car responded to Mill Creek Road and Mendenhall Road for a reported suspicious vehicle.

When the officer pulled up to the car, it took off, Officer First Class Tom Jackson said.

The officer began a pursuit but for safety reasons broke it off and turned off the patrol cars emergency lights, he said.

The accident happened about 30-45 seconds later on Limestone Road at Little Baltimore Road and Brackenville Road.

The car being chased collided with an SUV. Two people in the car and the driver of the SUV were taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital.

Jackson said their injuries were not life-threatening.

He said police are still investigating the incident.

DelDOT reported delays on Route 7 but the wreckage has now been cleared and traffic is moving normally in the area.
