New Castle man arrested in robberies

NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (6/18/2015) A 31-year-old New Castle man has been charged in two recent armed robberies and an attempted robbery in the area, Delaware State Police reported today.

Shawn McIlvain was captured by troopers Sunday after fleeing from the parking lot at the Market Place convenience store at 1703 Wilmington Road (Route 9), police said. Troopers responded after a suspicious person was reported.

McIlvain was armed with a loaded handgun and had a ski mask when taken into custody, police said.

Investigators linked McIlvain to the armed robbery of the same store on May 31 and the robbery of the Market Place store at 752 W. Basin Road on June 6.

McIlvain was charged with robbery, attempted robbery, wearing a disguise during a felony and related firearms counts.

He was being held at Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington in lieu of $67,000 cash bail.
