3 seriously hurt in Penny Hill crash

PENNY HILL, DELAWARE (4/28/2015) Three women were seriously injured in a head-on crash of two vehicles in Penny Hill on Monday, authorities said.

The accident happened about 3:50 p.m. on Shipley Road at Woodhill Boulevard.

The driver of one vehicle, a 42-year-old woman , was trapped for several minutes until extricated by firefighters. She suffered possible head and upper extremity injuries, said Cpl. Abigail Haas of New Castle County paramedics.

An 18-year-old woman who was a passenger had possible head, internal and lower extremity injuries.

A 36-year-old woman driving the other vehicle had possible head and chest injuries.

All were treated on the scene by paramedics and taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton.

A 1-year-old girl who was a passenger in the car driven by the 36-year-old was believed uninjured but taken to the hospital for evaluation, Haas said.

Delaware State Police troopers are investigating the crash.

New Castle County police also responded, as well as Brandywine Hundred and Claymont firefighters.
