High winds topple trees, power lines

DELAWARE (4/23/2015) High winds knocked down trees and power lines across the region Wednesday.

The National Weather Service reported winds gusted to 45 mph at Dewey Beach, 46 mph at Sussex County Airport, 49 mph at New Castle Airport and 71 mph at Philadelphia International Airport.

Delmarva Power reported hundreds of outages in New Castle County, with most in Brandywine Hundred.

A tall tree fell and damaged a home in the 2700 block of Bodine Drive in the Chalfonte neighborhood in Brandywine Hundred about 3 p.m.

DelDOT reported that Edgemoor Road was closed for several hours Wednesday evening due to a tree down on power lines. A power outage also darkened traffic lights on Philadelphia Pike.
