14-year-old charged after shot fired in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (4/17/2015) A 14-year-old New Castle boy was charged with reckless endangering and related counts after a city police captain nearby heard a gunshot, authorities said today.

The incident happened about 12:50 p.m. Thursday at Seventh and Washington streets.

After hearing the shot while on patrol, the captain saw someone fleeing with a weapon in his hand and gave chase.

Police said the boy discarded the weapon at Sixth and West streets but he was taken into custody and the weapon recovered. Police said the gun had been stolen.

He was being held at the New Castle County Detention Center in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.
