Police: Suspect in carjacking try cleared, released

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (1/30/2015) City police say a 32-year-old man detained after what was described earlier as a carjacking attempt has been released without being charged.

A federal Homeland Security agent fired his weapon during the incident about 8:30 a.m. at a parking garage at 11th and Orange streets, with the individual suspected of trying to carjack his vehicle fleeing.

The man was soon captured by city police officers. But after they investigated, officials announced tonight that while they confirmed he had been involved in the incident, his actions did not substantiate an attempted carjacking charge.

Police said the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement Division of Homeland Security is handling the investigation into the agent’s actions.
