Man struck by postal truck dies

RISING SUN, DELAWARE (1/28/2015) A 79-year-old man struck by a postal truck near his home earlier this month has died of his injuries, state police said today.

The accident happened just before 2 p.m. Jan. 12 onĀ Peach Blossom Lane in The Orchards neighborhood.

Robert R. Thomas walked in front of the postal truck in an attempt to hand mail to theĀ carrier who was stopped while making deliveries.

The driver, Billie Jo Bentz, 43, of Dover, didn’t immediately see Thomas and began to pull away, striking him with the front bumper and knocking him to the ground, police said.

Thomas died Tuesday at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, where he had been admitted after the collision.

Bentz was uninjured in the collision, which police are still investigating.
