NEWARK, DELAWARE (1/15/2015) Two men were charged in the robbery of a Newark credit union after they passed dye-stained currency at the Delaware Park casino, city police reported today.

The robbery of the American Spirit Federal Credit Union happened about 1 p.m. on Jan. 9.

Police said today that William B. Baker, 30, of the 200 block of Ingram St. in Newark, was the man who entered the office on Elkton Road with his face covered, demanded and received cash and fled to a waiting car, with the dye pack exploding along the way.

James Collins, 43, of the 200 block of Joycelyn St. in Newark, was driving the getaway car that fled into Maryland, police said.

After state police gaming enforcement officers observed the money being circulated at Delaware Park on Monday, Newark police searched Collins’ home Wednesday and found evidence linking both men to the crime, Lt. Bill Hargrove said. Both men were taken into custody at the residence.

Both were charged by Newark police with robbery, wearing a disguise and conspiracy.

They were charged by state police with transferring the proceeds of criminal activity, conspiracy and theft.

Both men were being held at Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington in liey of $35,000 secured bond each
