LEWES, DELAWARE (12/26/2014) Citing a rising number of flu cases in Sussex County, Beebe Healthcare today began restricting patient visits at its hospital.

Under what it called a temporary policy, children under 16 years old are not allowed to go upstairs to visit patients nor are they permitted to be left alone in downstairs waiting areas.

“The decision was made to protect the health and safety of children and patients. As of mid-December, the state had reported 60% of all diagnosed cases in Delaware have occurred in Sussex County,” the hospital said in a statement on its website.

The hospital also asked anyone with flu symptoms not visit the hospital unless seeking treatment for themselves.
