Bicyclist critically injured near Ellendale

ELLENDALE, DELAWARE (12/20/2014) A 64-year-old Ellendale man was critically injured Friday night when he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle east of town, state police said.

Collin Worth was flown to Christiana Hospital in Stanton by state police helicopter after the accident about 7:15 p.m. on Hummingbird Road near Milton-Ellendale Highway (Route 16).

Worth was southbound in the northbound lane when he was struck by the front left bumper of a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Muneer D. Aziz, 18, of Ellendale, who attempted to swerve to avoid a collision.

Worth, who was hit near the center of the road, was thrown into the windshield of the car and carried a short distance befefore falling off onto the road.

Worth was not wearing a helmet and suffered a traumatic head injury, police said.

Aziz was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

Police are continuing to investigate and no charges have been filed.

Hummingbird Road was closed about three hours.
