Fire damage to 1871 home over $200,000

UPDATED STORY: 3 teens charged with arson in fire destroying 1871 home

MILLTOWN, DELAWARE (11/27/2014) More than 70 firefighters battled a blaze into the early hours of Thanksgiving Day that consumed a home built in 1871, officials reported.

The fire broke out around 10 p.m. Wednesday in the 1400 block of Milltown Road, just west of the intersection with Limestone Road (State Route 7).

Mill Creek firefighters found heavy flames when they arrived at the three-story building, which was unoccupied.

The flames quickly spread through the home and eventually broke through the roof.

Firefighters from Cranston Heights, Belvedere, Elsmere, Minquas, Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder and Hockessin also were dispatched to fight the blaze.

The firefighters remained on the scene until 3:30 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the blaze.

Michael Chionchio, assistant state fire marshal, said damage was expected to exceed $200,000.
