When the temperature dipped to 19 degrees at Sussex County Airport early today, it broke a record low of 20 set in 1959. Normal for the day is 38. At New Castle Airport, the temperature hit 19 degrees, 18 degrees lower than the normal low for this date but still 5 degrees above the record low of 15 set in 1936 for New Castle County, according to the National Weather Service.
At Dover Air Force Base, a low of 21 degrees broke a record of 24 set in 1959, according to the state climatologist.
Overnight lows will be in the 20s through Saturday, with daytime highs in the upper 30s and low 40s, with mostly sunny skies.
