Man, 19, shot to death in Bear was DSU student

UPDATED STORY: Suspect arrested in murder of DSU student

BEAR, DELAWARE (7/12/2016) A 19-year-old man shot to death Saturday near the entrance to the Rutledge development was a student at Delaware State University, the New Castle County police said Monday.

Malcolm Evans had left his home in the 600 block of Country Path Drive to go to work when a single gunshot was fired into his car in the first block of  Baywatch Road, striking him in the upper body. He lost control of the vehicle and crashed, police said Monday.

Evans was found to have been shot about 4 a.m. when a Delaware State Police trooper was investigating the crash.

 

He was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, where he died on Sunday afternoon.

County police spokeswoman Cpl. Tracey Duffy said a witness saw several males in the vicinity of the shooting but they fled before officers arrived.

She said investigators are trying to establish a timeline of events and asked anyone with surveillance images of the area to call police at 302- 573-2800.
