DOVER, DELAWARE (6/12/2015) Boats and volunteers are needed for the 11th Annual Inland Bays Cleanup on Saturday, state officials said today.
The cleanup from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. will concentrate on Rehoboth Bay and Indian River Bay, starting at the Massey’s Landing Boat Ramp at the end of Long Neck Road.
Volunteers should dress to get dirty and be prepared for conditions on the water as well as wet walking on land, according to the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. Rubber boots are suggested and volunteers may want to bring life jackets, which are required aboard any boat used for the cleanup. Life jackets also will be provided at the cleanup.
The event is sponsored by the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays with support from DNREC.
Last year’s event drew 75 volunteers who collected more than 6,000 pounds of debris, officials said.
Advance volunteer sign-up is requested, as lunch and t-shirts will be provided to participants. At the event, volunteers will need to sign a waiver, with parents or guardians completing the form for participating children age 15 and younger. This event is not recommended for children under age 10.
