LEWES, DELAWARE (12/14/2014) Three people were injured, two of them seriously, in a crash early today west of Lewes, state police said.

The accident happened about 2 a.m. on Log Cabin Hill Road.

Police gave this account:

Donna J. White, 67, of Cobra, Maryland, was driving a 2007 Pontiac Vibe and was attempting to turn onto Log Cabin Hill Road from the parking lot of the Lewes-Rehoboth Moose Lodge, a third of a mile west of Sweetbriar Road.

As White began to enter the roadway, she failed to yield to oncoming traffic. The left front of White’s vehicle was then struck by the left front of a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser, which was being operated by Angelo Gring-Vazquez, 20, of Lewes,  and which had been eastbound on Log Cabin Hill Road,.

A passenger in White’s vehicle, Patricia A. Kent, 59, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered serious injuries and was flown to Beebe by state police helicopter.

A 67-year-old woman who was a passenger in Gring-Vazquez’ vehicle was taken by ambulance to Beebe. Police are withholding the name of the woman, who they said was not wearing a seat belt, pending notification of family.

Gring-Vazquez, who was not wearing a seat belt, was not injured. He was cited by troopers with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police said their investigation is continuing and more charges are expected.
