MARCUS HOOK, PENNSYLVANIA (4/23/2015) Delaware State Police remembered Trooper First Class Harold B. Rupert on Wednesday at a memorial sign ceremony in Marcus Hook.

The ceremony was held in the parking lot of the Honeywell plant on southbound U.S. 13, a quarter mile north of the Delaware state line.

Rupert, while in his seventh year as a trooper, was killed in a vehicle crash during a high-speed pursuit on April 19, 1962. He was riding in the passenger seat of his patrol car when a collision occurred as he and his partner were following a fleeing vehicle.  Rupert, 34, left behind his wife, Abigail and four daughters; ages 10, 9, 3, 1. His fifth daughter was born the following December.

In Delaware, 22 troopers have lost their lives in the line of duty since 1923.
