PIKE CREEK, DELAWARE (1/10/2015) A fire that swept through a restaurant at the Meadowood Shopping Center on Capitol Trail this morning has been ruled accidental.
The fire at Tandoori Restaurant, 2671 Capitol Trail, was reported shortly after 10 a.m.
Flames were coming out of the building when Mill Creek firefighters arrived.
A half dozen fire companies were called out to fight the fire, which caused an estimated $25,000 damage to the restaurant.
Investigators determined the fire began in a faulty kerosene heater that was being used in the building, which was not open to the public at the time.
“The kerosene heater burst into flames and spread the fire as it was being removed to the exterior of the building,” said Michael Chionchio, assistant state fire marshal.
He said there were no injuries reported.
