DOVER, DELAWARE (12/29/2014) A suspect in a brutal August gang robbery was arrested after a traffic stop Sunday night and officers seized a handgun from him, Dover police said this morning.

The arrest came about 10:15 p.m. on Hazlettville Road/West North Street.

Police said Duante Morrison, 22, was a rear-seat passenger in the vehicle stopped and was wanted on robbery and other charges in the Aug. 4 robbery in the Capital Green neighborhood.

“While Morrison was being taken into custody, he attempted to remove an item from his waistband. Officers quickly took control of Morrison and discovered the item to be a .22 caliber handgun, which was fully loaded,” Cpl. Mark Hoffman said.

In addition to charges related to the Aug. 5 robbery, Morrison was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a condealed deadly weapon and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony. He was being held at Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna in lieu of $116,000 secured bond.

In the August robbery, police said at the time five gang members robbed two teenagers, punching and kicking one of them until he was unconscious for a brief time, and then stole their bicycles.

Hoffman said the other four suspects were arrested earlier.
