1 arrested, 2 flee after chase, crash in stolen car

PIKE CREEK, DELAWARE (12/28/2014) An 18-year-old man was arrested early today after he crashed a stolen car while being pursued by state police, authorities said.

The incident began about midnight as a trooper at another crash scene, at Old Baltimore Pike and Salem Church Road, saw a maroon Buick Lacrosse go through the intersection.

A computer check determined it had been reported stolen in Middletown on Dec. 12.

The trooper caught up with and attempted a traffic stop but the car sped away, police said, through the Newark and Stanton areas.

The Buick eventually struck a curb at Old Coach Road and Henderson Hill Road in Pike Creek and became disabled, police said.

The driver, Michael Gordon of Newark, was arrested and found in possession of 1.3 grams of marijuana, police said. Two passengers fled and have not been identified.

Gordon was charged with receiving stolen property, disregarding an officer’s signal, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana and traffic offenses.

He was released after posting $6,000 secured bond.
