GREENVILLE, DELAWARE (5/25/2016) A Pennsylvania man died and another driver was injured this morning in a head-on crash of two SUVs in Greenville, the Delaware State Police said.
The crash happened about 7:45 a.m. on Montchanin Road between Kennett Pike and Adams Dam Road.
The driver killed was a 58-year-old Chadds Ford man whose name is being withheld by police pending notification of next-of-kin.
He was driving a 2011 Toyota Rav 4 southbound when the driver of a northbound 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee lost control as it went over railroad tracks, crossed into the southbound lanes and struck the front of the other SUV.
The Toyota spun off the west edge of the road, with the rear striking and landing on top of a stone wall.
The Toyota’s driver was treated at the scene by New Castle County paramedics and taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital, where he died.
The driver of the Jeep, Brandon Harper, 26, of Hockessin, also was treated by paramedics and taken to Christiana, where he was admitted for treatment of his injuries.
Police said both drivers were wearing seat belts.
Montchanin Road (Route 100) was closed in the area about 3 hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
