80-year-old man dies after SUV crash in Glasgow

GLASGOW, DELAWARE (12/19/2014) A passenger in an SUV that struck a guardrail on Route 896 last week has died of his injuries, state police say.

Rafael S. Patino, 80, of Monroe Township, New Jersey, was in the rear seat of a 2014 Toyota RAV4 when the accident happened about 11:40 a.m. Dec. 9 just south of Brennan Boulevard. He was taken to Christiana Hospital and died Monday.

Police said the SUV drifted off the left side and its left front struck the end of a metal guard rail.

The driver, Rafael J. Patino, 50, of New Castle, and two passengers — a woman, 84, and a man, 52, — were all taken to Christiana for injuries not considered life-threatening.

Police said the man killed was wearing a seat belt.
