Elderly man rescued after van goes into pond

STANTON, DELAWARE (11/21/2015) An 89-year-old man was rescued by firefighters after his van went into a retention pond this evening, according to reports from the scene.

The incident happened about 5:30 p.m. when the vehicle went off the ramp from westbound Churchmans Road to northbound Route 7 (Stanton-Christiana Road).

The van ended up in 4 feet of water in the pond, which is near AAA Boulevard.

The man was rescued by Minquas, Delaware City and Christiana firefighters.

He was then examined and found to have no injuries, said paramedics spokesman Sgt. Michael McColley, and was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in stable condition.

Delaware State Police are investigating the crash.
