Hunter, 24, wounded by arrow, undergoes surgery

MILLSBORO (11/14/2014) A 24-year-old hunter underwent surgery Friday after he was wounded by an arrow from another hunter near Millsboro, authorities reported.

The incident happened about 5:45 p.m. Thursday on the edge of a farm field along Cordrey Road., west of Cannon Road.

State fish and wildlife police said a 54-year-old man hunting from a tree stand shot an arrow from a compound bow that struck the younger hunter, who was on the ground about 30 yards away, in the abdomen.

The wounded man was flown to Beebe Healthcare’s hospital in Lewes by Delaware State Police helicopter, where he was stabilized and then flown to a Maryland hospital, where the surgery was performed.

Sgt. John McDerby of Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police said no charges have been filed but the incident remains under investigation.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company assisted at the scene.
