NEWPORT, DELAWARE (6/16-2016) A jackknifed tractor-trailer forced the closure of southbound Interstate 495 near Newport for more than two hours this afternoon but all lanes have been reopened.

The crash, involving no other vehicles, was reported at 12:37 p.m., Delaware State Police said. No injuries were reported.

DNREC crews were  on the scene to clean up diesel fuel that spilled when the truck’s tanks ruptured.

The southbound 495 backup began near the U.S. 13 exit south of Wilmington, and DELDOT reported traffic moving about 10 mph at 2:45 p.m.

DELDot diverted southbound traffic onto the Route 141 exit until the wreckage was cleared just before 3 p.m.
