WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (6/10/2016) A woman helping evacuate children from a day care center during a dryer fire went into cardiac arrest and later died at a hospital, authorities said.

The fire at Little Folks Daycare II, 1320 N. Market St., was reported at 11:33 a.m. today.

Wilmington firefighters arrived but employees had already extinguished the fire, which was contained to the dryer.  Firefighters used fans to clear smoke from the building.

Emergency medical crews began CPR on the woman who was in cardiac arrest at the front exit door, and she was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, where she later died.

The Delaware Division of Forensic Science will be investigating her death.

No other injuries were reported.

Battalion Chief Richard Danner declared the fire under control at 11:47 a.m. The city Fire Marshal’s Office ruled the cause was accidental, Battalion Chief James R. Jobes said.
