CLAYMONT, DELAWARE (6/1/2016) A bicyclist was cited for failing to yield the right of way after he was struck by a pickup truck in Claymont, the Delaware State Police said Wednesday.

The crash happened about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on Gov. Printz Boulevard at Hillside Road.

Police said Benjamin Gary, 22, of Claymont, was riding his bike eastbound on Hillside and rode into the path of a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup that was southbound on Gov. Printz.

The front of the truck struck Gary, who was knocked off the bike.

Gary was treated for scrapes, chest and leg injuries before being flown by state police helicopter to Christiana Hospital in Stanton in serious condition, said Sgt. Abigail E. Haas of New Castle County paramedics.

Police said his injuries were not life-threatening. He was not wearing a helmet.

The driver of the truck, Nadeen Gillespie, 54, of Wilmington, brought the truck to a controlled stop and was not injured, police said.
