DELAWARE (2/24/2016) Thunderstorms brought heavy rain to Delaware this evening, downed trees and wires and flooded roads.
More than 2 inches of rain fell in less than an hour around 10 p.m. in northwestern Kent County and southeastern New Castle County, where the National Weather Service had issued a flash flood warning.
A line of severe thunderstorms moved across the state, with a wind gust of 59 mph measured at Sussex County Airport near Georgetown at 5:44 p.m. More storms hit later in the evening.
Delmarva Power reported about 4,500 customers were without electric service in Delaware and nearby Maryland at 10:33 p.m.
The Delaware Electric Cooperative had more than 600 members without service in Kent and Sussex counties, with the longest outage about 3 hours.
